The largest gas utility contractor in the UK has renewed its equipment fleet with a massive investment in JCB compact machinery – in a deal for more than 200 machines.

KLT Construction, headquartered in Hemel Hempstead, has taken delivery of over 100 mini excavators – including the next generation 18Z-1 and 48Z-1 models – alongside 100 brand new JCB site dumpers, two Loadall telescopic handlers and a JS160 16-tonne tracked excavator.

The machines have already received a royal reception, carrying out projects at Alexander Palace, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace so far this year, alongside a series of further nationwide utilities projects.

Predominantly specialising in gas renewal and infrastructure maintenance, KLT has gained a strong reputation as one of the leading providers in the utility industry – delivering in excess of 6,000 metres of gas mains replacement and 500 services and associated works every week. For over 30 years the company has chosen JCB compact equipment to support its growth in this specialist sector.

KLT Construction Chief Executive, Robert Taylor said: “Being one of the leading utility contractors in Southern England, image and reputation are everything for us – so it is essential our equipment is up to the task. By using modern equipment we can employ advanced techniques that make our programme of works faster and safer – while minimising the noise and environmental impact. As market leaders in their field, JCB machinery is built to the highest possible standard. It is reliable and can withstand many hours of hard work while always maintaining a sleek design.

“During the long-standing relationship between KLT and JCB the equipment has always met our stringent demands. We have received demonstrations from other manufacturers, but they always disappoint – never matching the high standard set by our JCB fleet. The latest models have received fantastic feedback from our operators, delivering a step forward in performance but remaining intuitive so it is easy to switch to new machines.

“The support from our dealer Greenshields JCB has always been first class. With an enjoyable trading relationship going back 30 years the service continues to exceed expectations.”

KLT Construction is part of the KLT Group, a private limited company, established in 1997, by the founder and current C.E.O, Robert Taylor. Operating from its head office in Hemel Hempstead, there are subsidiary depots in Slough, Stanwell, Kings Langley, and Godstone.

With a combined workforce of over 400 people, KLT is regarded as one of the largest industrial construction companies in the South of England. It has 150 engineering teams carrying out mains service repair, and replacement services for utility providers and main contractors including SGN, Cadent, tRIIO, Skanska, Morrison Utility Services Limited and Matrix Networks Limited.

JCB’s new generation of compact excavators – which includes the new 18Z-1 and 48Z-1 models purchased by KLT Construction – boast improved durability with robust construction and ease of maintenance, to minimise downtime and to boost productivity for the customer. They have been engineered from the ground up to deliver reduced total cost of ownership and improved ease of use.
